My Home Town with Kori Beck

Welcome to our very first edition of ‘My Home Town’. Something a bit different and away from wrestling where we get in touch with names on the Australian wrestling scene, to reflect and share some stories on the hometowns they grown up in or are currently living in.

Kori Beck is a young upcoming wrestler on the Western Australia scene working with Southern Territory Wrestling and the EPW School of Wrestling.

I was born in Hobart, Tasmania. I have never met my father, I was raised by my single mum along with my two older half siblings (brother and sister). Eventually she went on to marry my former stepfather. We moved around a lot, each time I found it harder to fit in different schools. While the girls were playing with dolls, I was playing football with the boys or being chased by them.

It felt so cool hanging out with my half-siblings, along with their high school friends. I was very much the annoying little sister that wanted to tag along. My brother was the one who got me into wrestling and gaming. When we lived in a suburb called Moonah my brother and/or my sister’s boyfriend at the time would occasionally take me to the Moonah Ice Skating rink.

One of my fondest memories when we lived in Glenorchy, we lived across the road from Harry’s fish and chips shop, we quickly built a friendship with the owners and would sometimes randomly get free fish and chips at the door. A lot of my childhood was spent in daycare (PCYC) where we would go to outings like the cinema, Woodey’s rollerworld, Cadbury’s, the Richmond Maze and the Glenorcy pool. I never got to spend as much time with mum back then as I’d like to, I’m still trying to make up that time till this day.

• The Maze is in Richmond. Upon arrival, a clipboard is given to you, and then you need to find animal signs throughout the maze, as well as finding your way out.

• City Park in Launceston is rated as one of the top ten parks in Australia. It features a children’s playground area, as well as a monkey enclosure. The monkeys are frisky, mischievous and very entertaining.

• Cadbury Factory is in Claremont. Up until 2018, the factory conducted tours – it was a joyful experience taking part of a tour as you could eat chocolates along the way. At the end of the tour you were able to purchase cheap chocolates.
