NJPW Tamashii Tag Titles Set to Debut at ‘Cold War’ Event in New Zealand

New Japan Pro Wrestling is heating things up in the Southern Hemisphere, officially announcing the debut of the NJPW Tamashii Tag Team Championship. The titles will be introduced in dramatic fashion at the upcoming ‘Cold War’ event, set to take place on Friday, July 4th at the Mangere Arts Centre in Auckland, New Zealand.

In a move that reinforces NJPW’s commitment to its Oceania brand, the champions will be crowned via a one-night tournament — promising some of the region’s most promising tag team talent vying for the inaugural gold.

While official matchups are still yet to be revealed, the event will showcase some of Tamashii’s standout teams and fan favorites. Notable duos already making waves within the brand include The Pretty Boys (Mark Tui & Richard Mulu), Ungrateful 1’s (Trent Hooper & TJ Illes), Jungle Fury (Johnny Gunn & Bruno Astro), and the returning Youngblood (Oskar Leube & Yuto Nakashima).

NJPW Tamashii was launched in 2022 as a dedicated platform to spotlight talent from the New Zealand Dojo, under the guidance of NJPW veteran and Bullet Club original Bad Luck Fale. The brand has steadily gained momentum, giving local wrestlers the opportunity to develop on an international stage while bringing the NJPW product to new audiences in the Oceania region.

The introduction of the Tamashii Tag Team Championship marks a significant step forward for the brand, adding stakes to its rapidly growing tag team division. It’s also a clear statement from NJPW that its vision for global expansion includes creating meaningful opportunities for its rising stars in New Zealand, Australia, and for tag team wrestling.
