Champions Downunder #8- Aussie Champs Getting It Done Worldwide!

We’re back with the last two weeks of championship matches and championship happenings around the country, along with a look at what’s coming up within the next couple of weeks. I’m Mick, and this is Champions Downunder! Let’s have a look at what’s been going down in the Aussie wrestling scene for the cream of the crop, ooh yeah, dig it.

New South Wales

What’s Happened?

  • The reigning PWA Heavyweight Champion, Charli Evans, has suffered an ankle injury. She took to X to post the news, saying that she’s okay but had to pull out of a couple of bookings, including Rev Pro in Spain, hoping to be back at it next week. Wishing the champ back to action as good as ever in the weeks to come!
  • The Soul of PWA Champion, Robbie Eagles, is currently competing in NJPW’s Best of the Super Juniors tournament. At the time of writing, following Night 4 of the round robin tournament, Robbie holds 4 points, with a record of 2-1, defeating YOH and Kevin Knight, but losing to AEW’s Nick Wayne.
  • At IWA Wrestle Riot (May 10), Dan Archer successfully defended the IWA Trans-Tasman Championship against Jax Jordan, reversing a moonsault attempt into the Paradox Piledriver in a very impressive finish.
  • Randal retained the IWA Heavyweight Championship against Ben Braxton. However, he suffered some damage in the retention, being put through the announce table by a fired-up Braxton.
  • At All-Star Wrestling’s Only The Strong Survive (May 10), Keegan Brettle def. The Puppeteer to retain the All-Star Heavyweight Championship.
  • Also, in a Fatal 4 Way match, Jack Dullahan def. Jay Law, Sam Cannon & Wes Williams to retain the Eastern States Championship.
  • All-Star Women’s Championship- Jasmin Brettle (c) def. Kyla Knight
  • All-Star Tag Team Championship- The Belief (c) def. Christian Auciello & Dancin’ Dave Watters

What’s Coming Up?

  • All-Star Wrestling have booked a major Champion vs. Champion match, winner takes all, as Heavyweight Champion Keegan Brettle faces Eastern States Champion Jack Dullahan at Night To Remember 6 on June 14th
  • At Integrity Headstrong on May 17th, Maxx Ramirez defends the Heavyweight Championship against Scott Magnum.
  • At Rock N Roll Wrestling’s Saturday Night Fights on May 24, the RNR Elite Champion Morgan Rose will be in non-title action, facing a mystery trainee making their debut from the RNR Academy!
  • Also, one half of the RNR Tag Team Champions, Killa Kye takes on Andrew Vega.

Australian Capital Territory

What’s Coming Up?

  • At SLAM Pro Wrestling League on May 31st, it’s No Disqualification as Dan Archer defends the SLAM Heavyweight Championship against Caveman Ugg.
  • Also, Rita Stone defends the SLAM Women’s Championship against Frankie B.

Victoria

What’s Happened?

  • At PCW Ignition (May 10), Aysha was successful in her first PCW Women’s Championship defence against Caity Luxe.
  • Also, Levi Nixon def. Jarvis to retain the PCW Ignition Championship.
  • At APW Breakout 55 (May 16), Tarlee answered the open challenge of Natasha Valentine for the APW Legacy Openweight Championship, with the match being made official for APW’s Winter Warfare on May 31st!

What’s Coming Up?

  • MCW’s High Stakes (17th May) card is set, featuring championship matches such as Ricky South (c) vs. Caveman Ugg for the MCW World Heavyweight Championship, Adam Brooks (c) vs. Ryan Rapid for the MCW Intercommonwealth Championship, and for the MCW Women’s Championship, it’s Eugenie (c) vs. Aysha, with Erika Reid as special guest referee.
  • AUS Pro Wrestling plays host to a big title match on May 31st at their Generations event, as new PCW National Champion Tommy Hellfire defends against Owen Steadman.
  • At BCW 63 (23rd May), Gore defends the BCW Heavyweight Championship against Famous B.
  • Also, the Super Grouse Bogans defend the BCW Tag Team Championships against the Natural Classics.
  • Frankie B will defend the BCW Women’s Championship against Tarlee.
  • For the BCW Battle Express Championship, Levi Nixon (c) takes on Jordie Sparkles.
  • At APW Winter War (May 31st), APW Breakout Champion Nova Nicholls defends against EVO.
  • At Alpha Pro’s Apex event on May 17th, Cousin Ali defends the Alpha Pro Heavyweight Championship against Mike Kaos.
  • Also, Adam Crowe defends the Alpha Openweight Championship against Johnny Della Rocco.
  • Also also, Nate Hunter defends the Pipeworks Market Championship against Josh Redfield.
  • Also also also, the Oner Brothers have issued an Open Challenge for their Alpha Pro Tag Team Championship.
  • At MXW Let ‘Em Cook (May 31st), Terry Shaw defends the MXW Carnage Championship against Zedd Nitrox
  • Also, JXT vs. Ace Shack goes down for the MXW Upload Championship.
  • Mike Kaos defends the MXW Ascend Championship against Max “Bushranger” Kelly.

Queensland

What’s Happened?

  • At QWA Double Tap 2 (May 10), Strong 94 def. Northern Royalty to retain the PWL Tag Team Championship.
  • QWA Heavyweight Championship- Dick Riggs (c) def. Tim Burr and Bojack in a triple threat match.

What’s Coming Up?

  • IPW holds Allegiance on May 24th. The IPW Heavyweight Championship is on the line in a Triple Threat match, as Chad Atlas (c) faces Toa and EC Diamond.
  • Alex Lee returns to IPW to challenge Eugenie for the IPW Women’s Championship.
  • At PWL Doomsday on May 17th, PWL Champion Ricky Utomi defends against Mick Moretti.
  • Also, Craven defends the Openweight Championship against Seth Tylors.
  • At UPW Fight For Life 8 (May 31), UPW Featherweight Champion Jack Tucker steps out of his division to fight The Stockman in a grudge match!
  • Also, Andre & Bones challenge The Sanctum for the UPW Tag Team Championship.
  • At QWA Dominance on June 7th, Seth Tylors challenges Dick Riggs for the QWA Heavyweight Championship.

South Australia

What’s Coming Up?

  • At ACW Behind Enemy Lines on May 17th, RCW’s Grand Champion Chris Basso teams with Dean Brady, and they take on ACW Heavyweight Champion Downunder (great name) and Tommy Knight.
  • The Heat challenge Stoked And Broke for the ACW Tag Team Championship.
  • Riot City Wrestling’s next event, titled Key To The City, takes place on May 31st, centred around a ladder match for a guaranteed title shot in the future.
  • On May 31st, at RCW Key To The City, it’s Downunder vs. Chris Basso for the RCW Grand Championship.
  • Also, RCW Emerald Crown holder Edward Dusk will take on Red Smash.
  • At Wrestle Rampage Mayhem At The Lion Arts Factory on May 24, Havok will defend the Australian National Championship against Edward Dusk in a Dog Collar match.
  • Also, Misery Loves Company (c) battles Kings of Ruin for the Australian National Tag Team Championship.

Western Australia

What’s Happened?

  • Southern Territory Wrestling’s No Turning Back event, scheduled for May 10, was unfortunately cancelled.

What’s Coming Up?

  • At EPW Gold Rush on May 24th, Marcius Pitt defends the EPW Heavyweight Championship against James Hartness.
  • Also, ATO defends the EPW Tag Team Championship against Davis Storm & Bruno Nitro.
  • NHPW are promoting their Represent event for May 24, advertising appearances by the Art of Fighting Champion Korvus, and the Hybrid Champion Axxton.

Tasmania

What’s Happened?

  • At TCW New Dawn on May 5th, a NEW North Esk Champion was crowned as James Sly Silver defeated Elliott Greyson.

What’s Coming Up?

  • TCW’s next event, Joker’s Wild, will be held on June 21st (my birthday!). Sure to feature the champions of Tasmania in some capacity.
