New Impact Pro Wrestling NZ Heavyweight Champion crowned at The Eliminator

This past Saturday, the Mt Eden War Memorial Hall was packed out as Impact Pro Wrestling New Zealand held their annual event, The Eliminator. By all accounts, it was a very exciting night, with the biggest story coming out of it being Jayrilla walking out as the brand-new IPW NZ Heavyweight Champion. Jayrilla is a fan favourite of the IPW NZ crowd and has been picking up quite a lot of steam in recent months, leading him to win both IPW NZ Warner Cup and now the IPW NZ Heavyweight Championship. Jayrilla would win the Heavyweight Championship by defeating champion James Shaw and a surprise third challenger in Alex Savage, who cashed in his championship match contract that he earnt by winning the 2024 Eliminator match.

While Jayrilla’s crowning moment got a lot of the spotlight coming out of The Eliminator, the event also saw the annual over the top rope Eliminator Match take place, with this matchup having a far less likable result for fans in attendance. Sir Mr. Burns of both Church & State and The Young Naturals would be the ultimate victor of the Eliminator Match, having won a matchup earlier in the night against Jake Shehaan, thanks to the help of one of his Young Naturals Tyler Ernst, that guaranteed him the #30 spot, while also slapping Shehaan with the #1 spot, and then going on to win the actual Eliminator, guaranteeing him a future shot at the IPW NZ Heavyweight Championship at any time of his choosing.

The IPW NZ Women’s Championship was also showcased during The Eliminator, as 5x champion Megan Kate defended her title in an open challenge. Kate, a 15 year veteran of the New Zealand wrestling scene, has been a mainstay of IPW NZ who is currently enjoying her final run in professional wrestling. At The Eliminator, she would walk away with the IPW NZ Women’s Championship still in her grasp after defending the title in a Triple Threat match against Amber Sparks and Candy Lee, who shocked fans by making her return to IPW NZ.

All in all, The Eliminator was quite the noteworthy event, as it normally is for IPW NZ, with excitement brewing about when and where their follow up event will be taking place.
