UPW Slams Cancer With Upcoming Charity Event
May is a busy month for Aussie wrestling, and Queensland-based promotion United Pro Wrestling (UPW) are ending it with a show put on for a great cause. Tickets are selling fast, with the front row already sold out. With proceeds going towards cancer research, and a great wrestling event planned to boot, this is a hot ticket!
On May 31st, UPW are holding Fight For Life 8, at the Banana Bender Pub on the Sunshine Coast. Announced matches include:
- Mitch Ryder vs. Jesse Love in a 2 Out Of 3 Falls Match
The main event of Fight For Life 8 sees two of UPW’s biggest stars go head to head in a tie-breaker of sorts, as both Mitch Ryder and Jesse Love are 1-1 in competition against each other. This explosive battle also carries the X Factor of ringside participants- what effect could Todd Eastman, the manager of Mitch Ryder, have on this contest? On the other side of the coin, can the power of love from Jesse’s girl, Jazzy, propel him to victory?
- EC Diamond vs. Thirteen (c) for the UPW Championship
Two men viewed as “pioneers” of UPW go to war for the richest prize in the company. Thirteen captured the UPW Championship in a shocker on January 18th of this year, defeating The Gospel. Meanwhile, EC Diamond’s stock has risen exponentially over the past year or so, most notably winning a Scramble match to kick off the huge PWL/Renegades Australian Supershow back in March. He’s held championship gold including the Queensland Openweight and IPW Unified Championship. He looks to add more gold to his collection here.
It’s champion vs. challenger. It’s student vs. teacher. Who will leave the Banana Bender Pub as champion?
- Damien Daniels vs. Pogo The Clown vs. King Rembrandt to decide who will face Jack Tucker for the Featherweight Championship
These three men will engage in a high flying, heated spectacle just for the opportunity at championship gold. Three dangerous, unique characters, DSD, Pogo and Rembrandt are sure to put it all on the line in order to rise through the ranks at UPW.
The Featherweight Championship has a rich history, including at Fight For Life events. Here is a taste of what you can expect from the featherweights at Fight For Life- in a match deemed one of the greatest to take place in a UPW ring, it was Bones vs. Draven at Fight For Life 6.
This is a charity event, with 20% of all proceeds to be donated to the Leukaemia Foundation. The Leukaemia Foundation works to support any Australian affected by more than 120 different types of blood cancer out there, including leukaemia, lymphona and myeloma.

Fight For Life is an annual charity event held by UPW, starting in 2018. They’ve held some major matches. In addition to the massive Bones vs. Draven main event posted above, notable battles include Matthew Gabriel vs. Ricky Rembrandt for the UPW Heavyweight Championship back at Fight For Life 1, Moko Kai vs. Thirteen (Fight For Life 4), and just last year, we saw an absolutely stacked card at Fight For Life 7, where in a Featherweight Championship clash, Bones def. Andre Irons, Tessa Armstrong def. Caity Luxe for the UPW Women’s Championship, and finally Jesse Love ascended to the top of UPW, winning the Heavyweight Championship by defeating Tommy Winslow in a Tables Match.
All that to say, Fight For Life 8 has a lot to live up to, with a strong legacy and history. Given the announced matches, and the commendable cause it’s all supporting, it should be an explosive show on the Sunshine Coast!
