Aussies Abroad: Eagles wins gold and new years success

The new year has brought success for Aussies in the overseas pro wrestling scene.

Welcome to the first instalment of Aussies Abroad for 2025, a weekly feature where we visit the latest news from the Australians dominating the overseas pro wrestling scene.

Let’s start this week’s coverage with the latest news out of Japan with TMDK’s Robbie Eagles and Kosei Fujita becoming IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 19. The four-way Tokyo Terror match main evented the night, with the champion duo of Kevin Knight and Kushida, the Bullet Club War Dogs team, and Cath 2/2 going head to head with TMDK. The match saw some heavy blows traded between the two teams, with Fujita eventually grabbing the title to catch the win for himself and Eagles.

Also in Japan, Chris Vice has continued his time in the country with another GLEAT match up with the team of BULK Orchestra. Vice, along with Brass Knuckles JUN and Ryuishi Kawakami came out on top as the winners of the match in Tokyo Dome City Hall.

Adelaide prodigy Kira Summer has also welcomed the new year with further success in Japan with TJPW. Summers recently competed in the Prince Rumble event, followed by a recent match with some of the company’s best talent.

Over in America, Australian favourite Toni Storm has been making waves in AEW since her surprise return last year in her original rocker debut look. Storm has been on a journey of destruction since her return (despite swearing she is new to the sport and only now coming on to the scene), defeating fellow Aussies Harley Cameron and Shazza McKenzie, along with Taya Valkyrie and Lelia Grey all in the span of a few weeks. Last week’s Collision saw Storm also defeating Deonna Purrazzo in an intense match which saw both women showcase some impressive moves. It was eventually a ripcord that saw Purrazzo down for the three count.

Also in AEW, things didn’t go as well for Aussie legend Kyle Fletcher, who was on the receiving end of a nasty payback from Will Ospreay following their rivalry. Ospreay got his revenge on Fletcher at the Continental Classic against Fletcher as Worlds End in what was a vicious and bloody affair. Fletcher still dominated parts of this match, including an intense moment that saw him licking his rival’s blood off his hands after absolutely destroying him in ring. It was however, it was a brainbuster followed by the styles clash that saw him down for the three count.

Over at ROH, Aussie Harley Cameron recently found success in a match against Ashley Vox, following an unfortunate defeat the night before against Hanako. Cameron once again brought the Aussie heat to this match and had some highlights including a series of impressive suplexes and a shining wizard for the pin. Things however didn’t go so great for fellow Aussie Mark Davis last month at ROH, when was outnumbered in a Survival of the Fittest Six Way Elimination match against Komander, AR Fox, Blake Christian, Brian Cage, and Willie Mack. The 25-minute match did produce some exciting moments though, with Davis showing what the Aussies can bring to the international ring.
