Happy International Referee Day From AEW’s Aubrey Edwards
On behalf of everyone here at PWdownunder.com AEW Referee Aubrey Edwards has sent in a special video message giving thanks to all our referees here in Australia and offering some words of encouragement for aspiring referees on, INTERNATIONAL REFEREE DAY!
“Hey everyone, it’s Aubrey Edwards and on behalf of everyone at PWDownunder, I want to wish everyone Happy International Referee Day. All you guys on the Indie scene in Australia, you are killing it. Know that your efforts are not going unnoticed. We appreciate all that you are doing, whether you are an aspiring referee, a referee in training. Someone who is actively on the Indie scene. A formal referee, someone who has guest refereed once or twice. You know how difficult it is to don the stripes and to be the person that is the third man in the ring, so we say.”

Keep checking PWdownunder.com up until October 19 for some great insights from former and current referees.
“One of my absolute favourite parts of being a referee is how you are such a critical part to the story, even though you’re not in the foreground. Before I was in wrestling, I was a classically trained ballet dancer, I danced for twenty-two years. I’ve been in The Nutcracker more times than I can count. But there were valuable lessons that I took away from The Nutcracker because if you’ve ever seen Waltz of The Flowers, there is a whole lot of pretty girls in flower costumes running around all over the place, but there’s one Sugar Plum Fairy. And while everyone has paid tickets to see the Sugar Plum Fairy because she’s on the poster and she’s the best dancer, all of these dancers behind her in their flower costumes are helping to accentuate the story she is telling with her body. I literally do the same exact thing, except now I’m wearing pants instead of tights, and I get to yell numbers at people, and it’s pretty damn cool.“

The refs here in Aus are great, they should be part of the show while still maintaining authority. Bill Alfonso often gets forgotten how he was a ref that participated in storylines
